The incumbent will conduct field and laboratory studies directed at enhancing the efficacy of blue orchard bees as orchard crop pollinators, specifically as almond pollinators. The assignment is to determine: 1) the effects of stocking density and/or placement of bee domiciles in orchards on almond yields, and/or (2) if pesticide applications during orchard bloom cause bee mortality or induce sublethal effects such as disrupted nesting behavior, disorientation, and/or diminished reproductive success. Travel to California for collaborator meetings and to perform extended periods of study is required.
