Regional Integrated Pest Management (RIPM) Competitive Grants Program - Northeastern RegionAbout the RIPM Grant ProgramHow to ApplyLogic Model TemplatePreviously Funded ProjectsHow to Submit ReportsAbout the RIPM Grant ProgramBackground: The Regional IPM Competitive Grants Program was established in 1996. In 2003, the Northeastern IPM Center assumed administrative oversight of the program (Center Co-Director John Ayers has been its grants manager since 1998). Since 1996, a total of 94 research, extension, and education projects have been funded; 38 projects have been funded under the Center’s oversight. Purpose: This RIPM Grants Program supports projects that develop individual pest control tactics, integrate individual tactics into an IPM system, and develop and implement extension and education programs. The program favors projects that address priorities developed with stakeholder involvement; will clearly benefit the northeastern region; include a component of environmental stewardship; and show a high likelihood of success. Priorities are set by IPM Working Groups, State Network Projects, the Advisory Council, and NEREAP-IPM. Eligibility: State agricultural experiment stations, land-grant colleges and universities (1862 and 1890), research foundations established by land-grant colleges and universities, colleges and universities receiving funds under the Act of October 10, 1962 (16 U.S.C. 582a et seq.), and accredited schools or colleges of veterinary medicine. Award recipients may subcontract to organizations not eligible to apply. Project directors must be based in the Northeast. RFA development and proposal review: The core of the RFA was developed by the National Program Leader for IPM-CSREES, Dr. Michael Fitzner, in collaboration with the four regional IPM research and extension committees. Each year, the RFA is modified by each region to reflect program priorities and the level of funding available. Annual revisions are drafted by Center staff and approved by CSREES. The RFA is advertised via email and website posting; we solicit the help of partners in publicizing the availability of these funds. The dual proposal review process consists of a relevancy panel (nine Northeast stakeholders) and a technical review panel (five to six IPM professionals from outside the region representing a balance of disciplines, scientific specializations, experience, and backgrounds). How to ApplyUSDA-CSREES provides a summary of the grant program with links to the currently open or most recent RFA. The 2009 RIPM Northeastern RFA is available as a Word document or a PDF document. The deadline for letters of intent was Friday, October 24, 2008, and the deadline for complete proposal submission was Monday, November 17, 2008. Applications are submitted electronically through http://Grants.gov (the link goes directly to the Northeastern RIPM screen). Previously Funded ProjectsLists of previously funded projects and project reports are available via our grant database system (coming soon). In the search form choose "Regional IPM Competitive Grants - Northeastern" as the program type. You can also find information on projects here and in the USDA CRIS database. How to Submit ReportsTwo types of reports are required for RIPM projects: (1) Brief annual reports to USDA's Current Research Information System (CRIS) (2) Annual progress or final report to the Northeastern IPM Center's grant database system. In previous years, reports have been submitted by email to the Center Co-Directors. The online reporting system will be available for reports in 2009. |
