Mapping Golf Course Pests with GPS: A Case Study of a Golf Course within the National Parks System

Speaker: Ben McGraw, Graduate Student at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA

Abstract:

In 2004 the University of Massachusetts was asked to develop a site specific IPM program for Highland Links Golf course in North Truro, MA. The golf course is uniquely situated within the Cape Cod National Seashore and falls subject to the National Park’s regulations regarding pesticide use. The talk will address the some of the unique issues that face the grounds crew and the adoption of IPM at HLGC. The lab was able to integrate data into Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and satellite imagery in order to better understand pest distributions on the golf course.
