A Vertically-Integrated Approach: the University of Rhode Island s Residential IPM Outreach Programs

Abstract:

This talk will describe the University of Rhode Island s suite of programs to encourage sustainable management practices on residential landscapes. Through stories and examples, we will illustrate how we have built a successful residential IPM program by applying principles of vertical integration and by establishing partnerships to leverage limited resources. Come learn how we integrate research with outreach and reach out to multiple target audiences through programs such as Healthy Landscapes, GreenShare, Sustainable Landscapes and more.

Biography:

Marion Gold serves as the Director of the URI CE Education Center where she coordinates research and outreach programs in horticultural, IPM and environmental sciences. Programs conducted through the URI CE Center include the GreenShare training for green industry members, the RI Master Gardeners, RI pesticide/IPM training, the Learning Landscape Environmental Education program for school children and extensive public education through television and print media. Marion received a B.S. from the University of Michigan, a M.S. in environmental economics from Michigan State University and a Ph.D in environmental sciences/entomology from the University of Rhode Island.
