Speaker: Lyn Garling, Education Specialist for the Pennsylvania IPM Program at Penn State University
Abstract:
For many years, land grant IPM outreach efforts focused primarily on agricultural commodities and producer groups. Increasingly, we are reaching out to the “other 98%” of our clientele – urban, suburban, and non-ag rural residents who are also impacted by pests and pesticide use. The Pennsylvania IPM Program is working on several projects to infuse IPM education into multiple environments, agencies and organizations. Our goal is to create partnerships and foster educated citizens capable of making wise decisions around pest management issues in their environments. Projects include the traveling talking car; “The BugMobile!”; developing and delivering a statewide IPM curriculum and database for K-12; and the Philadelphia School and Community IPM Partnership focusing on low-income neighborhood-level IPM implementation and outreach.
