Abstract:
Contemporary trends in landscaping are driven by public opinions and perceptions. Today the public is being bombarded from all sides about the safety of pesticides, fertilizers, and plant selection. Here, we will learn how to successfully incorporate organic landscaping methods and materials into our IPM program to best meet the needs of the public.
Biography:
Donald Bishop is the owner of the award-winning firm Gardens Are… in Marlborough, MA. His firm is widely recognized for its work in organic landscaping and its trade division of entomology and ecology supplies.
He is on the Massachusetts Invasive Plant Advisory Group, the board of directors of the Ecological Landscaping Association, and the Marlborough Storm Water Management Advisory Committee. He is a founding faculty member of the Northeast Organic Farming Association, Organic Land Care Program. He is a frequent guest speaker at conferences and universities throughout New England.
Mr. Bishop is a co-author of the Strategic Recommendations for Managing Invasive Plants in Massachusetts, City of Marlborough Open Space and Recreation Plan 2003–2008, and Standards for Organic Land Care: Practices for Design and Maintenance of Ecological Landscapes. He is a contributing editor of the Guide to Healthy Landscapes, Vol. 1: From the Ground Up: Site and Soil Preparation and Earth Friendly Alternatives: A Concise Guide.
