Abstract:
Casey will talk about the challenges and opportunities of conducting an IPM program for a world-class horticultural display. Biological, physical, cultural, and selective reduced-risk chemical management techniques are all used to ensure a blend of aesthetics, safety and science.
Biography:
Casey has been employed in several different landscape, nursery, and other horticultural positions for almost 20 years. He holds a B.S. degree in ornamental horticulture from Cal Poly State University, S.L.O., as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in entomology from Colorado State University. For the past seven years, Casey has been the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Coordinator for Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. He is responsible for solving the indoor and outdoor horticultural pest, disease, and weed problems at the 1000+ acre institution, as well as overseeing soil science issues. He teaches and performs applied research related to the biology and control of ornamental plant pests and diseases. Casey has authored many popular, scientific, and trade publications and has given numerous presentations regarding ornamental plant IPM.
