Regulating Exotic Pests, a State's Perspective

Abstract:

Asian longhorned beetle, citrus canker and emerald ash borer are subjects that pop up in the popular press. As plant pests move around more often, many states are having to deal with these invasions frequently. This presentation will outline the states involved in dealing with a new plant pest at the state level. Specific examples will be included outlining the impacts and resources spent to manage these new invaders.

Biography:

Ann Gibbs serves as the State Horticulturist with the Maine Department of Agriculture. In that capacity she deals with plant regulatory issues and provides outreach and education on issues impacting the horticulture industry. She holds an MS in Plant Science from the University of Maine in Orono.
