Educating Young People about Responsible Pest Management for a Sustainable Environment

April Gower, Executive Vice President, the Entomological Foundation

The goals of this national program are:

1) teach young people and educators on the importance of responsible pest management through formal and informal-based learning experiences leading to community-based youth action initiatives;

2) promote youth and educator involvement in protecting the environment and its natural resources by integrating IPM programming into
current science-based educational programs;

3) instill in students a life-long appreciation for the biological and ecological diversity of insects and a commitment to environmentally acceptable means of insect control; and

4) expand the pool of scientists with specialties in entomology
and related environmental and agricultural sciences. An overview of the
program will be presented along with a discussion on partnership
opportunities in the development and implementation of this program along
with how this program can assist you in accomplishing your educational
goals.
